This site has been prepared in support of my book The Physics of the Manhattan Project (Springer). The third edition is now available (September 2014). Below are links to spreadsheets referenced in the text and to a pdf document giving the algebra of the Bohr & Wheeler derivation of Chapter 6 (2nd edition version); scroll down if need be. A few new links have be added to reflect new material in the third edition - notably a FORTRAN code for time-dependent simulation of a tamped core. Click here for a pdf that gives brief descriptions of the spreadsheets. I would be happy to receive any suggestions for corrections or improvements. Links to annotated bibliographies of Manhattan Project literature also appear below. Click here for a list of second-edition errata (last update November 27, 2011). Of course, the third edition is not without its very own set of errata.
My synoptic treatment of the Manhattan Project, "The History and Science of the Manhattan Project," is now available (ISBN 978-3-642-40296-8). This text is aimed at college-level undergraduate general-science students, but also contains extensive narrative material that will make it of interest to historians and lay readers. A detailed list offootnotes is now available. A few errataare also available (last update Jun 10, 2015).
ERRATA alert: Due to a printing error, the periodic table on page 74 of the book lacks beryllium (element 4) and magnesium (12) in the second column. The author apologizes to his readers for not catching this. Please click here for a corrected version.
